Winter fashion - Haute High Octane Sportswear

We’ve all seen it happening and many of us have embraced it. The trend for more sporty outerwear is hardly a surprise. For many of us it now reflects our lifestyle as well as our values.

We want to be out and about, active and healthy. Having fun with the kids, the dogs and our friends. Challenging ourselves in our work and leisure time.  And now fashion has caught up.

Sporty outerwear is the key pillar of this trend towards a more relaxed luxury haute couture look. The reinvented and repurposed Puffa is most definitely in vogue!

Which so easily segways into a recent article I was reading in a 1950s copy of Vogue! I know, I was exited too…

I work with the Leicester and Rutland Branch of the Garden Museum, a charity preserving this country’s rich heritage of garden design and at a recent talk by Lady Tanya Compton I was in need of a prop to stabilise the projector. I rummaged in the bookcase and came across a whole library of vintage magazines, Vogue, Tattler and Vanity Fair. I was in my element and snuck a few pics to devour later. It seems that Luxury Sports Wear was just as de rigeur in the 1950s as it is today!

Today’s Puffas are a far cry from the elegant sophistication of the coats sported on the pages of these magazines - they were oh so chic.

Balenciaga's shrugged off the shoulder numbers are amazing and could be worn with shimmering eveningwear and utter nonchalance.

Louis Vuitton has some hiking boots to die for. No doubt they are on every fashion editors list of gifts this season. Wear them with matching leather pants or flirtatious miniskirts.

Today’s sport luxe takes fashion to a new level – it’s adventure seeking, high throttle, all terrain athleticism at its max. It’s like the fashionistas have read Jen Sincero’s book You are a Badass (which by the way is well worth reading) and added some high octane sports luxe of their own.

I’ve recently spotted these boots which look stylish but you know you could go for a winter’s walk in them. If you fancy something a bit more adventurous then these ski pants are pretty incredible too – but if your style is a little more understated then this Marni sweater I think is a great way to work this trend.
