Your Spring wardrobe should put a spring in your step. Here are my top tips for success.
It’s that time of year when the weather seems to have changed and you’re peering into the wardrobe wondering what pieces to pick out as the dark black, navy and greys assault you.
For many, uniform dressing is dangerously alluring but I’ve always preferred to be a little more unique. I love to follow the fashion trends on the high street but add a personal twist so I don’t feel like I’m dressed exactly the same as everyone else. It amazes me how school girls bemoan the fact that they have to wear a school uniform (I love Miss H’s and the fact that it takes the decision making out of the day) yet when it comes to a party they all have the same dark jeans and crop tops on in exactly the same shades of Nordic grey!
If, like me, you prefer to know what you’re going to wear the night before the mad rush that is school runs and daily chores, then read on. I’ve pulled together some key Spring fashion trends and worked out how I’ll combine them with my Winter wardrobe to get the best effect.
Statement Accessories
I love statement accessories and they’re making their mark on Spring 2017. I adore how they can take an ordinary outfit to a new level. They are also key for taking a plain jumper from day to evening with a splash of lipstick thrown on too.
Pale and interesting
Is your Winter wardrobe filled with dark Nordic colours like mine? Simply lighten your wardrobe by swapping your dark neutrals to pastel hues. Baby pink and blue are very fashionable for Spring 2017.
I also love this season’s yellow but with a skin as pale a snow it’s not a look I’ll be sporting. Until I discovered the Arbonne Self Tan (£33/ PC £26.40 - Message me for free delivery) I spent the summer saying “oh yes, I’m pale and interesting!” For a darker or olive skin this Spring season’s yellows look amazing and are well worth trying. I’ve already resorted to my Arbonne fake tan to give me a spot of colour. I’ll work it up in layers over a few days so that by the time I hit Las Vegas for Arbonne’s Global Training Conference in April I’m a beautiful hue and no one has really noticed a dramatic switch from pale to tanned!
Best Foot Forward
If you like to keep your outfits low key and simple then add an element of va va vroom with a key piece of footwear. I love this seasons Spring footwear trend for chunky block heels and metallic hues. A funky pair of leopard print ankle boots will take a pair of skinny jeans to a new level too.
Flower Girl
Florals have been in for some time now and this season is no exception. I love the floral prints in both delicate designs and bolder prints. A bright floral dress can make a stylish statement with minimum effort. If the weather is warm they look pretty with summer sandals or with chunky heels but as the weather is often too wet right now, match your floral dresses with ankle boots and a parka.
Khaki is a big fashion trend this Spring and a Khaki jacket is a perfect pairing for spring florals. Opt for a light style which can be layered under a coat until the weather warms up.
Kimono styles and coat dresses are also popular this season. I love coats, as Mr H will attest. “How many coasts does a girl need?” is often a cry I hear as I unpack another darling and nestle it in the wardrobe! I love a silky kimono layered over jeans for a really stylish look. Layer with a turtleneck for cold days and switch it for a plain tee or cami when the temperature is milder.
On Your Bike
Biker jackets are set to be really big this Spring too. Whether you are going for a leather look or this season’ softest suede, opt for a hip skimming look that is flattering whether you are wearing trousers or skirts.
When the winter wardrobe fatigue has finally taken its toll, start looking to spring for your style inspiration. You’ll find a wealth of ideas on the high street so go out and have fun and mix and match your looks for style inspiration.
I love to share fashion tips and hope these Spring fashion trends will help you breathe some new life into your wardrobe. Let me know what your favourite pieces are this season and how you’re mixing and matching them, tweet me, or you can also catch me on Facebook.
