These are delicious frozen bites of cacao goodness packaged with gooey nut butter. They satisfy the darkest of chocolate cravings and are a perfect after dinner snack if you want a sweet treat but are avoiding refined sugar. At various times in a woman’s monthly cycle they can crave chocolate which is usually an indication that you’re lacking magnesium, one of the most deficient minerals in the western diet. Among other things it helps regulate the nervous system and aids sleep so a little hit of these after dark is perfect!

For me ceremonial cacao has become part of my morning routine and I drink it in ceremony every day before I meditate, journal or start my daily planning. I buy my cacao from Forever Cacao who source their beans direct from the Ashaninka tribes in Peru. They also do amazing chocolate!

Makes 6 – 8 depending on how big you roll them!

Ingredients

20g almond butter (remove the oil off the top if it has separated)

2 teaspoon flax seeds

1 tea spoon honey or maple syrup

1 ½ tablespoons ceremonial cacao ground into a powder – plus more to roll

¼ teaspoon vanilla essence

Directions

First grind the flax seeds into a fine powder. Now add all the other ingredients to your food processer and blitz until smooth. If the mixture is super sticky at this point place in the fridge for an hour so you can roll it easily.

Roll into balls and then roll each ball in Cacao powder to coat it. Chill in the fridge or freeze and enjoy one mouthful at a time!
